Oracle has just launched a new video series featuring a handful of chats between technology analyst, and Constellation Research co-founder, Ray Wang and Steve Miranda, Oracle’s EVP of applications product development. Future Talks explores Oracle’s recent innovations in user interfaces (UI) and emerging technologies, details new measures of customer and cloud success, and IDs the emerging technologies all of us will be using within the next five years.
The intersection of technology and people is growing
While the videos are focused on technology and human resources is focused primarily on people, the areas of intersection between people and technology continue growing. Employees now expect to see the consumer products they use in their personal lives—SMS, Siri, Alexa, and more—available in the workplace. Oracle’s job as a partner to our customers is to help bridge the gaps between expectations, opportunities, and emerging technologies. The future-forward technologies addressed in Future Talks are excellent examples of the types of efficient and user-friendly technologies HR should always be championing.
Through voice UI the future is already talking to us, informing us of actions we should take and job candidates that belong on our short list. Experts Miranda and Wang address these and many other important technology developments, Oracle’s evolution from a product to a service delivery company, and the degree to which user feedback continuously informs and influences Oracle product designers and developers. Following are just a few of their insights.
7 things you’ll learn from the new video series
1. Consumer-grade UX in an enterprise software platform increases engagement. Whether you choose to use Siri, Alexa, SMS, or another front-end technology doesn’t matter to Oracle. Steve Miranda explains that you can use any digital assistant to connect with Oracle’s digital assistant and easily manage almost any self-service transaction within HR. Voice and text queries are quickly becoming the new normal.
2. HR is turning from an “input-in” system into a “suggest-out” system. Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning are rewriting the script in HR and many job functions, including recruiting. Pervasive machine logic is getting very good at detecting patterns and anomalies. This is leading to exciting developments such as best-option and best-fit recommendations.

3. Basic tasks featuring high volumes are key candidates for automation. AI is the new user experience or UX, Ray Wang tells us. AI is making the applications we use so much smarter. The next big move is to make things easier. There’s so much repetition we can reduce or eliminate. Basic tasks that offer lots of volume and opportunities for mistakes should become candidates for automation.
4. Oracle uses three key metrics to better measure customer success. Customer satisfaction is one standard measure Oracle uses to gauge the value of your implementation. Learn about the weight Oracle places on utilization, time to go live, and time to adopt features in our effort to more accurately assess customer success and satisfaction.
5. Two emerging technologies get a “thumbs way up” from Steve Miranda. The list of candidates includes machine learning, Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, 5G, AI, and quantum technology. Steve Miranda says two of these emerging technologies are already fundamentally transforming the way Oracle applications work today.
Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down: Emerging Technology
6. Deciding to go with Oracle is an investment in your future. Oracle’s breadth of innovation and investment is supported by the vision to quickly adopt new technologies that include AI, machine learning, blockchain, and IoT. Steve Miranda talks about how well-positioned Oracle is throughout the technology stack and the complete suite of business products that can run any business in the cloud today.
7. Adaptability plus targeted investments in technology equals future-proofing.
Steve Miranda explains why any large enterprise not moving to the cloud today would have to believe that the laws of business and the effects of change don’t apply to them. And yet change isn’t waiting.
